Following Cesar Milan's methods, the initial lesson centers on becoming the pack leader—projecting calm assertive energy so your dog instinctively follows. This parallels Martha Beck's teachings on taming a wild horse.

Milan suggests visualizing a moment of calm and happiness and observing how your body and expressions change. What immediately came to mind was the time I spend each day on the mat doing my yoga practice. Then I had an 'AHA' moment: Becoming ever more aware of the energy you're projecting makes a better human leader too.
