This Weeks Little Life Notes From Me to You
A friend of mine thinks I should consider the possibility that I like to be distracted- I call it go with the flow and nurture the soul!
With everything to do in the garden and in life, my son Jumah and I've been pouring my energy into building this little pond. First we tried a a barrel for a couple years, and last week we grabbed a pond liner and took the leap. I hope the water lily grows flowers for me to paint!
The rewards are also a beautiful sound of gurgling water and a change of pace and creative outlet.
Making a Fresh Start With the Focus to Heal Both Body and Mind, is a Good Thing to do Anytime!
Four Years ago I came home from vacation sicker than a dog, I ended up visiting emergency two nights in a row without finding out what was wrong. I'll spare you the details, but I didn't get better and it took some time to get a diagnosis. Four months later I had my appendix removed and recovered.
It’s true what people say- that having a illness or accident can have a transformational effect on your life.
Being ill put me face-to-face with myself and thinking about everything I've been doing. I saw that I was living with more stress than was healthy for mind and body, and so it was back to the basics of self-care for me.
Taking time off work I was able to re-explore reading and painting and enjoyed cooking healthy home-made meals and attending to the needs of home and family- taking time for myself, my husband, children, and closest friends.
It’s such a gift to be required to reduce life down to basics
I'm grateful that the crisis that opened my eyes was minor, and I’m also very grateful to have had a wonderful yoga teacher who has patiently taught me the tools to successfully get through difficult times.
Of course, spending extra time doing yoga and journaling- prioritizing a good sleep each night, and in general making a fresh start with the focus heal both body and mind, is a good thing to do anytime!
When you're getting stretched too thin it's time to start your wellness journey anew!
In the end, slowing down and taking care of body mind and soul is the best way to accomplish more of what you’re called to do or enjoy doing. You can assess where you’re spinning your wheels, what works and what doesn’t.
Ignoring warning signs can lead to anxiety or depression which affect your mood, impact your family and relationships and harm your body. It can even create inflammation that leads to injury and illness.
Pushing through when your energy is asking you to regroup and examine your life does more harm than good.
Becoming troubled in your heart can lead to bad habits that can cause health problems: eating too much or too little; procrastination and losing motivation; being irritable or angry with the ones we love, these are just a few possible results.
The good news is that a few minutes a day of self care will open your eyes to see what you need to be your happiest, healthiest self. That's what yoga does, and I can testify that it helps me face with courage and steadiness all the stress and suffering that life throws at me.
Yoga is so much more than a time-out to stretch and strengthen.
