New beginning Ahead

This Weeks Little Life Notes From Me to You

My husband Doug and I went out for dinner to a nice restaurant, thankfully without t.v.'s everywhere, and thinking about a good topic of conversation I asked "have you got any goals for this summer?"

He was understandably silent. It's not something that has ever come up before. Goals have always been implicit and involved family and holidays, now, with the kids over twenty years old, things are shifting.

Taking time out this summer for introspection is on the top of my list. I've also assembled all the equipment I need to comfortably plein air paint. Everyday for one or two hours is the goal.

What's on your agenda for the summer? Keep in touch- reply to this email, it would be great to hear from you.

Learn to Create the Perfect Mantra- Find a new beginning in which anything is possible.

Wellness, both physical and mental, plays a vital role in our lives. Being happy and healthy though, may have more to do with how we see ourselves and our place in the world than anything else. Just living life day to day believing in our best self despite the challenges we may face.

For the past 6 months I’ve had a note taped to my bathroom mirror- I am success.

It brings a smile to my face every day! It's a wake-up call to start changing the old patterns and beliefs that create doubt to ones that support joy and taking action with courage and confidence.

Because the brain loves to fire the same thought patterns, just repeating a mantra will lead to a positive self and world view, which changes everything.

“We attract what we believe” A common misconception in the new world view. Try this one instead: “We are what we believe”

For this reason, choose a mantra, or affirmation carefully, considering the impact it will have on you.

Start with one aspect of your life you would like to change: work/prosperity; health/happiness, relationships and self-awareness. You’ll find an over-lap, don’t worry about it.

One of the first mantras I used in my 20’s and which relieved sinus congestion was: “I am completely healthy in my body and mind".

It started with “I am healthy”. Unfortunately, it was difficult to believe at the time. I always was either congested or had a runny nose. You can say ‘I am healthy’ and if an inner voice goes ‘ha ha, right!’, then it won’t work.

A mantra will not work if you don’t believe it.

You have to up the ante: Adding ‘completely healthy’ in body and mind’ took the statement further from the actual truth at the time. This stops the negative shadow voice with its outrageousness.

Being more specific is also a technique. “I breathe freely through my nose” is one approach that could be used for sinuses.

Thirty years ago, working as a residential window cleaning entrepreneur, I repeated the mantra- “I am completely healthy in body and mind’ continuously through one long and tedious job.

It was successful.

Give it a try. Mantra’s can be repeated 3 to 10 times a day for a few weeks, they can be taped to a mirror where you’ll read it several times a day, or you can go all out and repeat it all day.

My latest one, ‘I am Success’, has inspired a deep change.

It comes at a time when the practice of introspection is also revealing changes that have slowly been happening: letting go of believing there is some measurer of success outside oneself. Releasing the belief that there’s anyone who’s approval or disapproval is relevant.

Finding a new beginning in which anything is possible.

FINE DINING RESOURCE
Durham College's Bistro '67

This is our go-to special event restaurant. Enjoy Gourmet food in Durham region, from farm to fork all naturally grown and raised. I love that the there's nothing on the menu I could cook myself. And there's a lovely patio in summer.

There are many college restaurants around the country, and the world too. We tried the one in Niagra on the Lake and it was excellent too.
