Introducing A New Program to Reset Body Weight and Create Vitality

As February wraps up, an unexpected journey is starting at Joy Core Connection:

It started with one student, we’ll call her ‘Karen’, who was denied life and health coverage at the age of 50, and the marker that caused this was her waist circumference. This was a wake-up call for her, and the reason she was motivated to join the Joy Core Yoga Program .

Karen increased her activity level because exercise is the most important factor for overall health regardless of body weight.

The next step is to build on that momentum and shed excess adipose tissue. Maintaining a healthy body weight has many benefits: Improving the safety and ease of exercise, reducing the stress on bones, tendons, ligaments and muscle tissue, and most importantly, improving metabolic health.

Metabolic health refers to how energy and nutrients are processed in your body.

This includes how efficiently your body converts food into energy, manages glucose (sugar) levels, and regulates hormones such as insulin. When you have good metabolic health, your body can effectively utilize nutrients from food, maintain stable blood sugar levels, and manage weight appropriately.

Key components of metabolic health include insulin sensitivity, lipid (fat) levels, blood pressure, and waist circumference. Poor metabolic health, on the other hand, can lead to conditions like insulin resistance, obesity, type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular disease.

Essentially, metabolic health is crucial for overall well-being and plays a significant role in preventing chronic diseases.

My story of weight management starts with my first baby- until then I easily maintained a body weight somewhere 15-20 lbs. over the so-called ‘ideal’ up until then- we'll take the guidelines for healthy weight with a grain of salt. Looking back, the amount of food I consumed while pregnant, mostly healthy and organic, was impressive. It resulted in additional adipose tissue (fat) that took me to borderline obese.

I was unhappy with my appearance and how my clothing fit.

Like many people it was an up and down struggle, after releasing unwanted pounds they would creep back. Eventually I made it down 10 lbs for a year and plateaued, then, for one month I reduced calories even more and shed another 12 lbs. I loved how I looked and felt and determined to keep off the weight- I had to alter my habits for good to do that.

Two key take aways- consuming excess calories is the central problem and adopting a ‘new you’ is the only way to change that.

The Metabolic Health Jumpstart Program incorporates both a structured approach to calorie consumption and a support system to recreate yourself as an active and centred individual glowing with vitality.
